What our guests say

“We had a stopover (our trip went to Grimaud) at Château de Bussolles. We stayed in the small Gite on the estate. Extremely friendly hosts, Hans and Jacqueline.” “We were able to arrive with our children in the middle of the night. Everything was already ready for us and we were able to get straight into our bed. Delicious breakfast consisting of croissants, eggs, bread, different kinds of toppings, tea, coffee, juice etc. Highly recommended to make your stay even more relaxing. Beautiful grounds, lovely swimming pool, lots to do for the kids. I would so come back here again.”

“Absolutely fantastic week in a wonderful location. All the different ‘entertainment’ in the castle and grounds: the huge playroom ( table soccer, field hockey and tennis, darts and pool), a large snooker table and poker room with all the bells and whistles – enough to keep adults and children entertained for hours.”

“Beautiful château. Very large inside (you get lost). We were with four families with children and everyone had their own space and freedom. We hardly saw the children as they shuttled between the playroom and the large garden. The surrounding nature is beautiful and several small walks are directly accessible from the castle, without taking the car: quiet and easy paths without traffic! We will definitely come back!”

“We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at Château Bussolles
with our entire family of 14. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the hosts with a comprehensive tour of the château to properly familiarize us. We were welcome if we had any questions, other than that we had all the privacy. A beautiful château with plenty of space and extensive opportunities for young and old. A beautiful environment for trips and walks in nature. We all enjoyed a wonderful stay.”

“Being able to live a full week as real castle residents with elderly people, children and grandchildren, in full luxury, with favorable weather gods.”

“All is present in this very quiet area, with beautiful swimming pool and entertainment for young and old.”

“We are the (grand)parents of a family with adult children and grandchildren ages 3 to 13. We rented Chateau de Bussolles for the second time, after Christmas ’21, for a week around Christmas ’23. This castle is very well equipped and ideal for a large family.

The reception rooms are beautiful, the large rustic room next to the impressive kitchen with a very long table for 15 people, the comfortable recreation room under the old vaults, a beautiful billiard room with a XXXL competition billiard, spacious corridors with knights in armor, and finally very large and characteristic bedrooms and bathrooms, well equipped.

The welcome by Jacqueline and Hans was excellent, with little surprises. They make every effort to ensure that we as guests have a peaceful and pleasant stay.

The inside of this castle is conducive to conviviality, relaxation, good humor and the enjoyment of family gatherings and meals. The children loved it, the grandchildren even more! And therefore, of course, so do we as (grand)parents…”

Traffic Jam - Enjoyable Congestion

Every other year, in Lapalisse, you can willingly find yourself stuck in traffic. On the nostalgic road, the Route Nationale 7 (RN 7), passing through Lapalisse, there used to be long queues of vacationers from the Paris region heading to the sunny south during the holiday season. This traffic jam is now recreated, in even-numbered years (2024, 2026, etc.), with old- and young-timers.

You encounter a variety of vehicles, including buses, cars, trucks, and even mopeds. Often, the drivers and occupants are dressed in matching attire. Markets, food and drinks, and overall conviviality abound, attracting participants from all over Europe for this three-day event.

Culinary Delights

First and foremost, you can enjoy cooking in the spacious shared kitchen. And how about a table d’hote diner with Hans and Jacqueline at the table? We can also organize your breakfast.

We’ve tried out some nearby restaurants for you, and we regularly update our list below:

Grand Pere on the N7, after Lapalisse. A special place in a converted gas station where Maxime and Carmen welcome you warmly. Cozy atmosphere and a delightful menu.

Restaurant l’Instant Pause in the center of Lapalisse, with a spacious lounge terrace and very friendly service. Great for a cup of coffee with treats or a simple lunch.

Restaurant Moulin Marin in Varennes-sur-Teche, offering a cozy atmosphere and a nice daily menu enjoyed alongside hotel guests.

Hotel restaurant Bourbonaisse, offering a solid daily menu.
.
Restaurant Thidier Montaigu le Blin, a slightly higher-end establishment where you can delight in the French cuisine of this chef.
