Wine Tastings and Vineyard Visits

While the Allier region around Château de Bussolles is not widely known for its wines, the center of regional wines is just half an hour’s drive from the castle in Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule.

In fact, this is one of the oldest wine regions in France; along with Champagne and Beaune wines, vintners in this region have been producing wine since the 14th century; back then, Bordeaux wines did not even exist. The Cave de l’Union des Vignerons is a cooperative of local winegrowers, responsible for about 60% of all Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule wines on the market. They also offer a delightful “champagne” at a reasonable price, though it cannot be officially called Champagne outside the region.

Independent vineyards like Cave Courtinat and Domaine Nebout, just outside Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule, are also worth exploring.

Not far from the castle, the Côte Roannaise begins—a wine region in the north of the Loire department, next to the Loire River. This wine region starts roughly at the village of Ambierle and extends beyond Roanne. Privately arranged wine tastings and tours with local vineyards, such as Château de Champagny by the friendly winemaker Frédéric Villeneuve,

can be organized by the castle. Explore picturesque vineyards and learn more about French wine traditions while enjoying delicious wines.

Local Gastronomic Tours

Discover the culinary treasures of the surrounding region with gastronomic tours. Visit local markets, cheese dairies, and artisanal bakeries to truly experience the flavors of France. Here, ingredients come directly “from the land to the market,” and the craft of gastronomy is elevated to a true art.

Picnics and Outdoor Dinners

In addition to gourmet dinners in the castle, you can also indulge in picnics and outdoor dinners in the beautiful natural garden of the château. Be surprised by the combination of delicious food and the breathtaking natural surroundings. With the culinary delights experience that Château de Bussolles offers, you ensure your group a unique and unforgettable holiday experience.
